How Abortions Are Destroying Women :: An Essay
Hey guys!
I thought I should share this essay I wrote (for school, admittedly), but first I'll just warn you that this is my first effort at an analytical essay, and it is by no means perfect or even good. So, with that said, I shall now paste the text below.
And I'm sure I messed up big time with the references, so please don't go subject those to scrutiny. xD

How
Abortions Are Destroying Women
By Danielle

Today,
abortion is a part of daily life. It is the solution to many “problems,” the
resolution of conflicting futures, and the “medical procedure” that “empowers”
women. Or so we think. Unfortunately, upon further research into the effects
abortion has on women, it is found that very few abortions are carried out
devoid of any harm to the mother, whether physical, psychological, or
emotional. Instead, abortion affects women of all ages and circumstances in
many different and grievous ways. Though it is extremely common and
wide-spread, those who have had terminations rarely, if ever, agree that
abortion is a solution, or that it somehow empowers them.
Following an
abortion, many women experience some kind of physical injury. A large 10% are
hit with immediate complications while undergoing the procedure. About 20% of
those complications are considered major. [1] Others, a minority of about 3-5%,
are left inadvertently sterile after their abortion. Women who are unable to
conceive can often have some fetal tissues remaining in their uterus, left by
the abortion. After its removal, most can conceive immediately. Women who have
had terminations also often develop Pelvic Inflammatory Disease, (PID), which
is the inflammation of the uterus, fallopian tubes, and ovaries, as there is a
higher risk post-abortion. [2] Later pregnancies can be rejected by the body if
there is great trauma experienced by the mind. [2] Despite what so-called
professionals may tell you [3], miscarriages are more prevalent in women who’ve
had one or more terminations, indicating that abortion does harm the future of
the woman.
Mental
health issues increase for the post-abortive woman. A study done with 877,000
women (164,000 of which had had abortions), showed that she has an 81%
increased risk of mental health issues. Marina, a young woman pressured into
having an abortion, has struggled with guilt ever since her abortion. [4]
Post-abortive women are 110% more likely to abuse alcohol, 155% more likely to
commit suicide, and 220% more likely to use marijuana. [1] Due to the
life-changing aspect of abortion, women who have had abortions are left with
lifelong guilt, which never leaves, and is often increased at menopause or when
her youngest child moves out, at which point she realizes her child-bearing
days are over, and she can never make up for her aborted child. The lively, sociable
pre-abortive woman often turns into a sad, moody recluse post-abortion.
Emotional
damage is another major problem for women who are seeking to recover from their
abortions. All too often, they believe that once they have had the abortion,
life will go back to normal. Sadly, this has not proven to be the case. Many
post-abortive women experience adverse reactions to other people’s pregnancies.
Successful births remind them painfully of their own baby who will never
experience birth. In many cases, the woman’s head justifies her decision to
have an abortion, yet despite all her reasoning, her heart grieves deeply. Unbeknownst
to their closest friends, thousands of women secretly think of themselves as
murderers, having allowed their babies to be killed. Every post-abortive woman
experiences deep emotional hurt.
As abortion
becomes easier and easier to access, the door is opening for thousands more
women to walk blindly into devastating loss, lifelong grief, and indescribable
pain. They are not informed of the terrible impact that a termination will have
on their life. Instead, they are told that everything will be fine, that life
will go back to normal, and that complications and lifelong effects are very
rare. Politicians and doctors argue that abortion is health issue, unaware of
the irony their statement contains. Their arguments is correct, thought their
application of it is not. Abortion is, and always will be, unhealthy for the
woman undergoing the procedure. Is it right to let women walk into such
incredible pain without telling them?
